Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill

Lazlo’s is a Lincoln institution, and for good reason. Everything they do is solid and it is probably my most frequented restaurant in Lincoln. I’m not going to send you to Lazlo’s for a crazy new experience you’ve never had because it’s concept is similar to many brewery/bars around the US. I’m going to send you there because they do that concept very well. Everything from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere to the beer is well done. Lazlo’s sports two locations in town, one in the Haymarket and one on Highway 2. If you are new to town, I’d probably tell you to go to the Haymarket location, but really, you can’t miss on either place.

Outdoor Seating

Really, you can go anywhere in the Haymarket area and you’ll probably find a nice place to sit outside. But Lazlo’s patio is right in the middle of it all. The outdoor seating enclosed enough that sitting outside can even stretch into the colder months longer than the other restaurants. Be careful, you’ll be looking across the street at Ivanna Cone so you’ll probably be tempted to go over for ice cream when you’re finished.

Beer

Not just Lincoln’s original craft brewery, Lazlo’s is Nebraska’s original craft* brewery. They were brewing beer way back in 1990 before the craft beer revolution made it cool. Lazlo’s has shown up on a variety of my lists since they’re a solid place to go for both food and beer. But focusing only on the brewery part, Lazlo’s has some solid year-round beers, but it’s the seasonal beer and community support that really makes them stand out.

*Note the use of first “craft” brewery. Nebraska’s first actual brewery was probably opened in the 1850s, Pioneer Brewing Co. Emperian is also Nebraska’s oldest brewery still in operation.

Favorite beers: Imperial Mango IPA (w/ Coconut) & Barrel Aged Imperial Peanut Butter Porter.
