Best places to find a burger in Lincoln 2016
Hey, my first blog post! Awesome, let’s hope I keep this up. I figured I would start with the best burgers in Lincoln because it’s an easy first post, though maybe not too easy since it seems like the best place to find a great hamburger is something people passionately believe in and are very vocal about.
Nebraska does have some really good beef, so finding great burgers in Lincoln is not hard to do. I’ve really tried my best but I’m sure I haven’t tried all of them. So feel free to leave your favorite comments below. Also notice the alpha order, no ranking just a group of good beef on a bun.
Born in a Barn
In the old Sweep Left building in the Haymarket, Born in a Barn is another place that combines a bar with a good beer list and some really good burgers. Stop in, get some wings, get a burger. You won’t be sad.

What you’re getting: The Holey Mole burger.
Dempsey’s
Dempsy’s is a bar that serves up really good burgers. They always have interesting beer on tap and great conversation with the bartender. It’s in the old Spaghettiworks building and is right on the edge of campus, which makes it a good spot to stop in on your way to a sporting event.

What you’re ordering: KOBE Burger
HF Crave
HF crave makes this list as my go-to burger place. This has a lot to do with them being close to my house, but still, I go there a lot. Most people in my circles don’t like it as much as Honest Abe’s, and while the interior lacks the cool factor of Abe’s, I think it’s burger quality wins. But be careful if you order the stuffed burgers, I had one that leaked juice and cheese all over my hand and it wasn’t pleasant. I’d stick to their signature burgers and I’ve yet to find one I didn’t like. Oh, and if you like peanut butter go get the PB&B, the juices from the burger combine with the peanut butter and make a tasty runny sauce. Let the gooey mess run all over your french fries. When you’re done sopping up all of the wonderfulness, pick up your phone and come to Lincoln by Mouth and thank me in the comments below. Then wipe off your phone.

Honest Abe’s
I’m pretty sure Honest Abe’s is Lincoln’s favorite burger place. When Alton Brown was in town in 2015, he asked Lincoln where to eat. According to him, they overwhelmingly said Honest Abe’s. The atmosphere is hard to beat and they do a great job with creativity. You can visit the place once a week and there’s always something new to try. While I’m not going to label it my favorite, it’s certainly up there and an overall experience that can’t be beat.

What you’re ordering: Something off this week’s specials
JTK
Honestly, I’m amazed that I have this one on the list. Maybe it will stick and maybe it won’t. JTK is one of my favorite places in town to get a nice dinner, I recently decided to go there over lunch and ordered a burger. Holy cow (no pun intended), it was good. Probably my favorite burger on this list. Their burgers are only on their lunch menu and when visiting for dinner I would probably be eating one of their other amazing entries instead of a burger anyway. So when visiting for a burger, go over lunch.

What you’re ordering: Zipline beer cheese Kobe burger
Misty’s
Misty’s is well known for their prime rib, and while you should definitely go there for that, I also love their burgers. Specifically the black and blue burger. It’s large, juicy and always leaves me happy. If you’ve never been, head out to the Havelock location on the Friday before a Husker football game. It’s an experience in itself. Add in a great burger and you’ve got a winner.

Runza
We can’t have a burger list in Lincoln without Runza. Every other burger on this list would rank ahead of Runza, but we’re really comparing apples to oranges. Everywhere else is a regular restaurant and Runza is a fast food chain. But I’ve never had a better fast food burger and it all started right here in Lincoln. So if you live in Lincoln and have never had a Runza hamburger, go get one, it’s your civic duty. But a side note (Runza if your reading this), I have one complaint. I typically want to stop in and get a Runza, you know a real Runza that doesn’t have cheese? I also usually want it with fries and a drink, but an original Runza isn’t on your value meal list. What’s up with that? I have to order a number 1 without cheese. Sheesh.

What you’re ordering: The Double Cheeseburger
Single Barrel
To me, the Single Barrel seems like one of Lincoln’s hidden gems. Since it’s sort of a hybrid restaurant/bar/live music place it’s not necessarily a the place that comes to mind when figuring out where to eat. But every time I’ve been in the food has been fantastic. Their burgers are no exception.

What you’re ordering: See if they can dig up the recipe for the Jowler Burger that isn’t on their menu anymore. Otherwise, go with the Triple Barrel
